Dr. Nik Serena Binti Zainal is the first Female and 2nd Asian that was awarded the Dr. Josef Steiner Cancer Research Award in 2019, an equivalent to the Medical Nobel Prize. The bioinformatician from the Department of Medical Genetics and the MRC cancer unit at the University of Cambridge received the award in recognition of her groundbreaking research in developing new methods in the field of bioinformatics for the clinically relevant classification of tumors. The renowned research award is presented every other year to an excellent project in the field of cancer research.
